From the chief…
“On behalf of the members of the North Spartanburg Fire and Emergency Services District, thank you for visiting our website. Our website is intended to provide:
An overview of the services that we provide;
Descriptions of the resources that the community has provided us to serve them;
Introductions of the fire department personnel who proudly serve and protect the folks who live in, work in, and visit our district and
Emergency preparedness information that will protect your family, property, and/or business in the event of a fire or other emergency.
The South Carolina State Legislature created the North Spartanburg Area Fire District on April 20, 1964. Our 38-square-mile fire district is home to over 20,000 residents and is located about five miles north of the City of Spartanburg. For over 50 years, the Fire District has served to preserve life and property in the case of fire, rescue situations, and/or other emergency events. Additionally, we strive to prevent fires and other emergencies through fire and life safety education activities, enforcement of fire and life safety codes and regulations, and advocacy of state-of-the-art fire-safe building construction methods. We prefer to prevent a condition that would cause you to call 9-1-1, but we stand ready to serve you in the event of an emergency.
Our fire department delivers efficient and effective fire suppression services, technical rescue capabilities, and first response to medical emergencies from three strategically located fire stations in the district. Each station is staffed around the clock with highly trained personnel and equipped with the resources capable of handling a wide variety of emergency situations that might occur at any time of day. We have also initiated automatic aid agreements with neighboring fire departments that ensure that our residents will be served by the closest emergency response resource capable of helping them in their time of need.
Our staff of full-time employees, part-time members, and volunteers take great pride in the Department's tradition of providing first-rate and courteous service to the members of our community. We encourage you to visit us at any of our stations. It would be our pleasure to discuss fire safety practices with you or simply show you around.
Again, on behalf of all of us at the North Spartanburg Fire and Emergency Services District, thank you for visiting our website. We hope that you find it informative.
Respectfully,
Nicholas J. Fortner
Fire Chief
