Employment benefits offered at North Spartanburg Fire District

North Spartanburg Fire District always strives to provide our employees with a detailed benefits package.  Currently, we offer the following:

  • 72 hours of PTO issued on date of hire

  • Time off is important to family life and your mental health as a firefighter.  We want to ensure that all new employees can take time off when they need it.

  • PTO lateral transfer option

  • Are you cashing out PTO at your current employment?  Use that money to buy PTO hours into your bank at NSFD upon hire.

  • Fully funded family medical insurance

  • The department covers the full cost of your medical insurance.  Currently provided through Blue Cross/Blue Shield, no money is deducted from your check for medical insurance.

  • Department-paid Short-Term and Long-Term Disability Insurance.

  • This benefit is fully paid by the department. If you are injured while off duty with the department, we want to provide our employees with resources that ensure their income continues while they recover.

  • Supplemental Accident and Sickness policy

  • This policy, provided through VFIS, gives additional coverage to employees on duty for injuries and certain illnesses that can occur while on duty.

  • Educational Benefits

  • The department values education and training.  The department has a well-funded training budget that sets aside money for training classes and conferences for travel.  For overnight training, per-diems and department vehicles are provided.

  • We also value higher education. In addition to your salary, we will pay each employee an additional $1,000 per degree (Associate’s, Bachelor’s, Master’s, Doctorate).

  • Longevity Benefit

  • Complete 25 years with NSFD, and be eligible to receive a $25,000 benefit when you retire
